Match Report: MIT vs. Suffolk Law
April 7, 2007
A much improved Suffolk Law hosted MIT at
MIT’s field on Saturday. Only in their second year, this team is clearly
coming together and just needs playing time to improve. Having said that
they were clearly outclassed on the day and only occasionally caused MIT
problems. Solid rucking provided the platform for the day with most of
the scores coming from the forwards and half-backs, including a virgin try
for Greg. The second-half was a little less controlled, partly through
fatigue in the forwards, and partly through many people playing either for
the first time in some time, or out of position. A good start to the
season, with some obvious things to work on.
Final score: 32 - 0 MIT v Suffolk Law
Thanks to
everyone who showed up, well played all. Things to work on for the
coming week are:
-
Backs
running – there is still too much drift running, we are at our most
effective running straight lines.
-
Half-backs/flanker pairings. We are too restricted in our game plan
at the rucks, it was either a “red” call or a “bingo” call – we need
to work on the halfbacks and inside centers bringing the ball back to
the forwards as a tactical play, not a desperation move.
-
Forwards running off the fringes are static when they receive the
ball, and some body positions are lazy – with a more organized
opposition we will never see the gain-line playing that way.
