Match Report: MIT v. New London October 14, 2006
Final Score:
MIT- 12 New London-19
Firstly, a great improvement over the North Shore game. Still many things to work on, but much better overall. We will all miss the flying irishman and the singing spaniard, but I did not see an issue from their leaving in the pack or on the field. This is a testament to the teamwork put in, and to the leadership of your captain. Good work pack! The game started poorly for us, primarily due to poor tackling. Two rapid tries (converted) from New London resulted in a less than ideal start, and arguably both of these tries arose from poor cover tackling in the center of the field (forwards and backs). Guess what we are working on tonight? However, once we got this issue sorted out, things stabilized tremendously and the team settled down. Good rucking and field position led to direct running in the mid-field (hallelujah!) two well worked tries from Wiggie and Jake that should have started us on the run to the end. An unfortunate series of handling choices squandered a couple of chances, and New London managed to counterstrike to seal the game. 19-12 at the end. However, a good game that should have been ours - some great rucking, and some good direct running in the backs. A positive improvement and a significant step towards regaining our early season form. We can still play better! Lets go to Vermont and show them we can play on the road too!
