This weekend was the Newport 7's tournament - always a fun affair, and one that traditionally MIT gives a strong showing at. On a baking hot day MIT showed up with 15 people and subsequently appeared to have at least three players playing at any time during the day. MIT started off shaky and lost the first game. Apparently (I missed this one) the opposition were very strong and MIT was not as cohesive as it could have been (mainly coz the coach got stuck at work on the last training session I suspect). MITs next game was a relatively easy win placing us in the plate division for the knock-out rounds. The quarter final game passed relatively uneventfully, with MIT never really looking in trouble, but the opposition staying in touch. The semi-final was much harder, going to sudden death extra time. After these two rounds MIT was scheduled to face Newport, a D2 side in the plate finals. With only a 20 min break between our semi and the final, it looked like the odds were stacked against us, but after scoring within a minute, and then again on the subsequent kick-off Newport never looked like they stood a chance. MIT ran away with it 7 tries to zero.

A great performance by everyone. Mentions to everyone who showed up, and played for us and whoever was short. Great job by Frank as captain. Man of the tournament is Mike Aaron for his superb finishing - but the rest of the team had to get the ball to him, and defend - a great team performance. Also special mention to Barry - for his unconventional use of the maul in a 7s game, and his lessons of ettiquette to the opposing players.

good job guys!
