South Shore Anchors 69- MIT 0, but apparently we're all winners.
(according to the south shore captain)
Guys the rugby season is 2 weeks old and something has to change NOW. I
know a lot of people are beat up from France. School is hard. Work
keeps you busy. Your girlfriend wants to go shopping on Saturday
morning. Tough. We are not a pro team and no one expects you to change
your entire life to play MIT rugby. You do owe it to yourself and your
teammates though to show up to practice, and make it to games. If you
can't make it to practice, or the game (or if you are going to be late)
tell somebody. (Gavin the coach would be a good place to start.)
I'm sure I'll get an email from someone telling me it's not my place to
be saying this. I don't fucking care. Come to practice and tell me to
my face. Tell me on Saturday before the game. Hell I don't care if you
show up to a game just to boo me. Bring your body to practice though to
help with drills before chewing me out. It is totally embarrassing to
drive 2 hours light on players (because someone drank too much the night
before to get up, got abducted by aliens, couldn't be forced to leave
the side of the sheep they were bedding, or some other 'reason') and get
your ass handed to you, not because we suck, but because you're playing
down 2 people. You play with the team you bring and fill in players are
usually scrubs anyway. (Seriously. South shore makes it a point to
give us the worst full back in history whenever we need a fill in. The
fact that I know this from playing short against South Shore multiple
times should tell you something.)
Does anyone remember Albany last year? A totally winnable game (playoff
implications), was lost because we played down a man to a team of dirty
playing fat old guys. Traveling like this is going to get us killed.
So if anyone is pissed at me about this, fine. I don't care. If you
know I'm talking to you though, all I'm asking if for you to come to
practice and get out and play rugby. We're not a bunch of girls so no
grudges will be held, but the team needs people to man up and take
responsibility for the season and being part of a TEAM.
Remember why we do this. Rugby is fun. Take the approximate 4 hours a
week it takes to play and get the most out of it.
Thanks Lenny, Mike, and Marcel for showing up and really helping us out
on Saturday.
I think I've done enough bitching about the past for a lifetime. Let's
get out and train hard this week and show Ironsides who the better rugby
team is. Southshore comes up again in 2 weeks. Let's show them what
we're really made of, not this 13 person (69-0) shell of a rugby team.
