Thanks to everyone who came down yesterday. The South Shore tournament was held yesterday in Falmouth resulting in an unpleasantly early start. Despite this the team showed up on time and mostly hangover free. The tournament was split into two "pools", a D2 pool with Old gold (who we play in a few weeks), South Shore (who beat us in miserable weather a few weeks ago), Charles River and Middlesex Barbarians (god knows why they were in the "top" grouping). To be honest the quality wasn't great, and based on what we saw we should be able to go toe-to-toe with Old Gold in the run-up to Newport.
The other pool was D3/social, and quite honestly we were a class above the competition. In this pool were MIT, New London County, Mt Washington and our friends Ironsides. The entire tournament MIT played some of the best _team_ rugby that I have seen for a years. No one individual stood out as man of the match, but the usual superb performances from the pack were augmented by some genuinely great performances in the backs. Personal standouts for me were the fowards generating ball for the backs and _all_ of the backs running at pace and at will at the opposition, and then rucking clean ball back to the forwards. For those who haven't been showing up frequently - your positions are all at risk!
20 min halves. Scores are vague estimates!
MIT versus Ironsides: 54:0
MIT versus New London: 27:5
MIT versus Mt Washington: 25:0
Lets try to keep this momentum going. We still need everyone out to training as much as possible, and 17 people (one of who had never played before) turning up to a tournament is the bare minimum needed. everyone get healthy, get fit, get out of bed! Newport in a few weeks. Suffolk Law at home next week.
